[Sgt Vincent Patrick Daly a survivor, flew Spitfire P8276. On 16th. Jan. 1943 while returning from an unsuccessful search for a British Motor Torpedo Boat reported to be under attack by several German gunboats, the squadron encountered bad weather and heavy fog. Three aircraft, Vin's and those of two Canadian Pilots, crashed into the snow-covered mountains near the England-Scotland border. Vin survived the landing and after two days, during part of which he dragged one of the Canadians along with him before realising the man was dead, was found by a shepherd and his dog searching for lost sheep. His nose was crushed, his mouth torn and his feet severly frostbitten. After some time in Larpent hospital, Scotland, he was sent to Hoylake where he became a member of the Guinea Pig Club, as plastic surgery patients of Sir Reginald McIndoe were known] Faults.
