Air Force

Air Force mail including the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) incorporating RAF censor handstamps together with wartime airmails and their rates and routes.
At the end of WW1 the Royal Engineers and RAF pioneered International Air Mail Services by setting up airmail routes between Folkestone and Cologne in Germany serving the British Army on the Rhine.

[No. 262 Squadron reached Durban on 5 Nov. 1942, and moved into its main base at Congella one week later. The first Catalina flying boat arrived on 21 Feb. 1943, and patrols over the Indian Ocean began on 26 Feb] South Africa. Ref: 314-059.

1944 different Letter Cards from ZULULAND to GB with d/r. MTUBATABAN p/m. with boxed RAF Detachment, St. Lucia, Zululand h/s. One endorsed from '262 Squadron'. [No. 262 Squadron reached Durban on 5 Nov. 1942, and moved into its main base at Congella one week later. The first Catalina flying boat arrived on 21 Feb. 1943, and patrols over the Indian Ocean began on 26 Feb. The seaways around Durban became increasingly full of shipping, to such an extent that it began to interfere with operations. The flying boats were moved to Langebaan and St. Lucia (Zululand), then in November 1944 into Lake Umsingazi] South Africa. Faults. Ref: 314-058.
