1945 (Dec) cover + letter KOREA to USA. US ARMY 970 p/m.

1945 (Dec) cover and letter from Pusan, KOREA to USA with US ARMY 970 p/m. re: Sabotage and Crime - about American soldiers robbing Korean civilians, and acts of sabotage suspected to have been committed by Koreans, as unrest and violence in Pusan began to escalate: "We are having a minor crime wave here in Pusan, caused by the G.I.'s. At night there are some G.I.'s going around robbing the Koreans, and holding up Geisha houses. So now we are having a 10 PM bed check every night to try to stop this trouble. We also had another fire this week, and the army officials still call it sabotage. Who knows, our building might be next." The letter was written by Pfc. Edward J. Mauer of the 382nd Station Hospital, which arrived on Okinawa in early August 1945 and established field operations shortly before the Japanese surrender. The 382nd later moved to Pusan, where there was a considerable amount of unrest and violence in late 1945 and early 1946. Ref: 321-153.
