He was created an M.V.O., 1915, and Chevalierde la Legion d'Honneur, 1916. He served as Temporary Major from Feb. 1916, until promoted to Substantive rank 2 Nov. 1916; was employed under the Air Ministry from 14 Oct. 1918; was mentioned in Despatches four times. 1918 (Sept) PPC [The Camp] from GB to Canada with part d/r. FARNHAM p/m. and oval CANADIAN SEGREGATION CAMP h/s. From 'Frensham Pond Camp'. [Segregation Camps were established in England where troops arriving from Canada were assembled for a period of quarantine, [28 days] instead of being sent direct to their Regimental depots. Their training was continued, and they were not a menace to the trained troops by reason of infectious diseases imported from civil life] Ref: 312-080.

1918 PPC HIJMS Yakumo during Operation in Indian Ocean to Truk Islands

1918 PPC [Singapore] from HIJMS Yakumo during Operation in Indian Ocean to Truk Islands. From Captain Tosu of Cruiser Yakumo in transit to South Pacific Islands To: Account Officer, Temporary Guard Unit of South Pacific Islands. mss .. “Thank you for your new year greeting. I suppose that you had difficulty during long service in South Pacific. I wish you may be fine. 6th February”.  In February 1917, HIJMS Yakumo under 1st Special Fleet which bases were in Singapore and Cape Town served to secure route of Indian Ocean began patrolling the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, searching for German commerce raiders.

Tamaki Tosu: from 1st December 1917 to 25th September 1918 during WWI, he served as Captain of HIJMS Yakumo. During the time, he was also Staff of 1st Special Fleet. 

HQ was at Tonowas (Dublon) Island of Truk Islands from December 1914 to 1918, when naval administration ended. Ref: 310-076.

[Mauritius located in Indian Ocean off East Africa] HMS Suffolk: Aug. 1917 she became flagship of the China Station and in Nov. 1918 deployed to Vladivostok. Ref: 312-079.
