"The protecting power have asked for a list of all repatriated internees who are relatives of those previously exchanged as sick .. There have been changes in the Camp since you left. Unattached single women have gone to Liebenau , B11 has moved to B12, and various people have drifting in fron Italy & Poland- lastly 148 of the long expected Benghasi & Tripoli Jews have turned up.. They have been the hoop, but are motley & villainous looking crowd, with a lot of Arab & Negro blood in them. The women are in 11 with Mrs. Mills as Bar Leeder, the men in B22". [Channel Islander deported to internment camp in 1942 and 1943] Faults. Ref: 315-057.

In July 1944 Downes began convoy duty from Eniwetok to Saipan in support of the Marianas Islands operation, then patrolled off Tinian during its invasion. She gave fire support at Marpi Point, Tinian, and bombarded Aguijan Island. Ref: 313-122.
